About this board game
Guardians’ Chronicles is a superhero-themed miniatures game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 75 minutes. Players take the roles of members of the Liberty Patrol or their archnemesis, Professor Skarov.
To begin, the Skarov player arranges nine double-sided game board tiles into a 3×3 grid, placing the control room in the center. The heroes enter from one of the side tiles and must advance around the square, facing minions and traps while pursuing the objectives for the scenario, such as thwarting a nuclear missile attack.
Each hero has a character sheet, miniature, and a set of 7–10 action cards. Every card combines a special power with modifiers to the hero’s movement, attack, defense, and mental statistics. When a hero plays a card, it can be used for either its special power or its modifiers, creating meaningful choices throughout the round.
- Hero actions include moving, attacking an enemy, or using a special power.
- Hero players collectively have four actions in a round and may choose their order of play.
- Professor Skarov spends action points to activate himself, minions, and robots.
After the heroes act, Professor Skarov receives action points based partly on what they have done. His figures can also move, attack, or use special powers, keeping the opposing side active as the heroes push deeper into the grid.
As objectives are completed—or left unfinished—newspaper reports record who accomplished what. The combined reports determine the final outcome, giving Guardians’ Chronicles a distinctive way to decide which side ultimately comes out on top.
