About this board game

Hamlet: The Village Building Game is a competitive village-building game for 1–4 players, with games lasting around 100 minutes. Players work together to develop a central Hamlet while competing to become its biggest benefactor when the Church is completed.

Rather than using a fixed grid, the game features irregularly shaped building tiles that connect in different ways from one game to the next. Players construct buildings that the whole village can use to create materials, refine resources, earn money, and make the important deliveries needed to build the Hamlet’s landmark.

As the village grows, the placement of tiles organically creates interconnecting paths. Villagers travel through the Hamlet, delivering food to households and transporting building resources to construction sites. These routes help shape how the settlement functions, ensuring that no two village layouts feel the same.

  • Build a shared Hamlet from irregular tiles without a fixed grid.
  • Use communal buildings to produce materials, refine resources, earn money, and support construction.
  • Work within a self-forming demand-and-supply economy.
  • Guide villagers as they deliver food and building resources through the settlement.
  • Compete to be the greatest benefactor when the Church is built.

Because the buildings are communal, every player contributes to and benefits from the village economy while working to provide the resources the Hamlet needs most. The result is a fluid mix of tile placement, logistics, resource management, and competition.

Designed by David Chircop, Hamlet includes a solo mode by Nick Shaw and Dávid Turczi. It was published by Mighty Boards, the studio behind Excavation Earth and Posthuman Saga, and released in 2022.
