Haspelknecht: The Ruhr Valley

About this expansion

Haspelknecht: The Ruhr Valley is an expansion for Haspelknecht for 2–4 players, with a playing time of approximately 120 minutes. Released in 2017, it brings coal mining into a new era in the Ruhr Valley.

In this expansion, coal mining has become an inherent and lucrative business for farmers. The tunnels now extend deeper and farther, supported by the use of iron as the region’s mining industry develops.

Mining also introduces new practical challenges. Water channels are implemented to help drain pit water, making them an important part of the deeper underground works described in this Ruhr Valley setting.

The local economy is changing as well. Much of the population earns its living exclusively through mining coal, then delivering the “black gold” to peddlers and the first coal barges cruising the river that gives the valley and the surrounding area its name: the Ruhr.
