About this board game
Haven is a two-player board game played in about 45 minutes, released in 2018. It casts one player as a growing human city and the other as the creatures and spirits of a mystical forest.
For thousands of years, the forest has sheltered beasts, spirits, and forgotten gods. Now the Haven Guardian sleeps, leaving the ancient woodland vulnerable to a nearby city hungry to control its powers.
The city seeks to master the forest using stone lore and machines. The forest player defends the woodland with leaf lore and forest spirits. Both sides must send seekers to compete for lore controlled by elementals, ancient beings that bestow their power on those who seek it.
- Battle for control of a mystical forest.
- Compete for lore governed by powerful elementals.
- Fight over shrines and pursue majorities around forest havens.
- Race against the awakening of the Haven Guardian.
Seekers also engage in combat for control of shrines on the board. Occupying a majority of the shrines surrounding forest havens earns bonus points, making these locations an important part of the struggle.
The game ends when one type of lore is depleted or one elemental leaves the board. At that moment, the Haven Guardian awakens, and the player with the higher score wins: the city masters the forest, or the forest successfully defends its ancient home.
With opposing factions, competing lore, elemental powers, shrine control, and a clear race toward the Guardian’s awakening, Haven presents a focused battle over whether the forest will be protected or turned against itself.
