About this board game

HeroQuest Advanced Quest Edition is a fantasy dungeon adventure game for 2–5 players, with sessions lasting around 90 minutes. One player acts as the game master, while up to four others take on heroic characters and venture into maze-like dungeons.

As the heroes wander through each dungeon, the game master reveals the maze piecemeal. This creates a fantasy quest built around discovery, with the dungeon unfolding as the players progress. The available characters are a wizard, elf, dwarf, and barbarian.

HeroQuest Advanced Quest Edition is Milton Bradley’s approach to a Dungeons & Dragons-style adventure game. Its miniature plastic characters and doll-house-style furniture make the setting approachable, while the expanding dungeon layout provides the framework for the players’ quests.

  • Designed for 2–5 players
  • Approximately 90 minutes of play time
  • One player serves as game master
  • Up to four players control a wizard, elf, dwarf, or barbarian
  • Includes 12 miniatures known as “Black Guards”
  • Includes four kinds of detachable weapons
  • Adds the 13-part “The Dark Company” adventure

The Advanced Quest Edition adds its new miniatures, weapons, and adventure to the basic HeroQuest box. “The Dark Company” provides a substantial new quest in 13 parts, while the Black Guards add further miniature figures to the game’s fantasy dungeon contents.

Also known by the German version name HeroQuest Master Edition, HeroQuest Advanced Quest Edition belongs to the wider HeroQuest series, which includes the main game and a number of expansions. It offers a contained way to experience the system’s game-master-led dungeon adventures and character-driven fantasy quests.
