Heroscape Master Set: Rise of the Valkyrie is a fantasy battle board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. It combines painted miniatures, customizable hex-based terrain, card-driven units, and objective-based scenarios.

Assemble battlefields by attaching and stacking 85 terrain tiles, including grass, rock, sand, and water. The set also includes two large ruins and 30 plastic figures representing warriors from different eras, including World War II soldiers, futuristic robots, aliens, a T-Rex-riding orc, and a large dragon.

Each hero or squad has a card describing its movement and combat abilities. Movement ratings range from 4 to 8 hexes, with moving up a level costing a hex; moving down can create the risk of falling and taking damage, unless the figure lands in water.

• Basic game: A streamlined version for younger players, with movement, attacks, defense, and range but no special powers.
• Master game: Adds special powers, wounds, engagement rules, falling rules, and other tactical elements.
• Combat: Roll attack dice against an opponent’s defense dice; skulls exceeding shields become wounds.
• Scenarios: Battle for elimination, reach a particular space, protect a figure, or survive for a set number of turns.

In the Master game, players alternate drafting unit cards until reaching the scenario’s assigned point value, or they can bring a pre-built army to save time. The scenario book provides five battlefields with layer-by-layer construction instructions and multiple objectives.
