About this board game

Hex Hex is a 30-minute card game for 3–6 players in which players force dangerous Hex tokens around the table while trying not to be holding one when it blows up.

The game has 17 different cards, creating a lively mix of tactical choices and sudden chaos. Some cards pass a Hex token to the left, right, or across the table; others split one token into two or increase its damage. A card can dismiss a token entirely, while another makes it explode in another player’s possession.

Players can also use cards to restrict the direction in which a token may travel or trigger additional effects if it does explode on them. Sending a token toward someone who has no cards left to play can be especially effective, making hand management and timing important parts of each round.

  • 17 card types with passing, splitting, damaging, and explosive effects
  • Hot-potato gameplay centered on moving Hex tokens between players
  • Voice scoring that tracks points across the game
  • A chaotic Hex Hex card that makes everyone drop their hands and raise their hands, with the slowest player losing points

A round ends when no Hex tokens remain available, and the game lasts for as many rounds as there are players, plus one. Since players gain and lose points based on where tokens explode, controlling the timing and location of the final explosions is crucial. Strategies that may not be obvious at first become clearer after the opening rounds.

Scores are tracked with individual cards representing Voice, and the player with the strongest total after the final round wins. Hex Hex integrates with Hex Hex Next and was reimplemented by Hex Hex XL.
