About this board game

High Moon is a spooky western route-building game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Guide your skelecows from their ranches through Death Valley to the breweries, where spooky liquors are distilled.

The rules are simple to learn. On your turn, place a card so that it covers part of the cards already on the table, then place your markers to connect points of interest. This straightforward structure creates challenging choices as the shared landscape changes.

Card placement can provide extra route tokens, but it may also give some of those tokens to your rivals. Every decision therefore has consequences, and the best move for your own routes may create opportunities for another player.

  • Build routes across a changing card layout.
  • Connect ranches, breweries, and other points of interest with markers.
  • Advance on three different spirit tracks.
  • Gain Spirit Tokens that provide special bonuses, including opportunities to place extra route pieces.

When placing route tokens, you must weigh immediate progress against the advantages available through the spirit tracks. Spirit Tokens can expand your options at important moments, helping you place additional route pieces and develop your network.

High Moon can be explained in about five minutes, yet its compact rules conceal meaningful tactical decisions throughout the game. With its eerie western setting, route-building focus, and rival-sensitive card placement, it offers an accessible game that still challenges your mind.
