About this board game
Holdfast: Korea 1950-51 is a fast-paced game for 1-2 players that recreates the Korean War in approximately 120 minutes. Released in 2015, it uses simple rules and an interactive turn sequence to keep both players engaged throughout the battle.
The game represents the major forces involved, including the US Army, US Marine Corps, ROK Army, NKPA, and CPA. Air power, armor, and the naval strength of the UN forces are included through straightforward mechanics, while blocks with labels and a low unit density keep the board easy to manage.
- Rail movement for repositioning forces
- Amphibious landings and surprise attacks
- Represented air power, armor, and UN naval power
- A compact rules system designed for a quick start
The core rules are four pages, expanded to eight pages with detailed graphics and explanations. After around 15 minutes of rules reading and a short setup, players can begin making critical decisions across the Korean Peninsula.
As the NKPA player, can you take Seoul and Pusan before the US-led UN forces become too strong? As the UN player, can you advance into North Korea and secure the Yalu River before Chinese forces arrive from the north?
Holdfast: Korea 1950-51 also covers the shifting objectives that emerge as the war continues. If negotiations begin, controlling more enemy territory across the 38th Parallel may become the key to securing a favorable result.
