About this board game
Hornet is a tactical area-control board game for 2–5 players, played in about 45 minutes. Players control pairs of hornets that race across a modular landscape of hex tiles, collecting nectar from flower fields and producing honey in hornet nests.
Each player has an identical deck of action cards, and every card can be used multiple times. At the start of each turn, players secretly choose an action card and reveal their choices simultaneously. Actions are then resolved in numerical order, with each player assigning the selected action to one of their hornets.
This simultaneous action selection creates constant interaction. Players must anticipate their opponents, plan several turns ahead, and sometimes bluff while deciding where their hornets can make the greatest impact. The different action cards support cunning tactical moves as players compete for valuable flower fields and nests.
- Modular hex-tile board: Build a variable landscape of flower fields and hornet nests of different sizes.
- Dual-layered resources: Collect nectar from flowers, then use it to produce honey in the nests.
- Simultaneous choices: Secretly select actions before revealing them alongside your opponents.
- Area control: Compete to become the player with the most honey in each nest.
Nest winners are resolved in a predetermined order. A player wins immediately by conquering three nests, or wins at the end of the game by having conquered two nests and producing the highest aggregate amount of honey.
With easily comprehensible rules, variable setup, and cheerful, eye-catching artwork, Hornet offers a lively family gaming experience where careful planning and timely tactical decisions matter.
