HorrorClix

About this board game

HorrorClix is a 2006 miniatures game for 2 players, with sessions lasting about 60 minutes. Players assemble teams of monsters from across the horror spectrum—including vampires, zombies and werewolves—and decide whether to protect the innocent, eat them, or do both.

Rather than focusing only on hack-and-slash combat, HorrorClix emphasizes scenario- and story-based play. Plot twist cards and a strong focus on scenarios help push the Clix system in inventive directions, while the combat dial provides hundreds of tailor-made supernatural and gruesome powers and abilities.

Every monster is supported by a character card featuring fiction, detailed explanations of its capabilities, and mechanics designed to distinguish each creature. The miniatures come pre-painted and include stat cards, making the game’s supernatural cast ready for the table.

The line includes a Starter Set, booster expansions such as The Lab, Freakshow and Nightmares, and special collectors sets featuring Aliens, Predators, the Alien Queen, The Great Cthulhu and Freddie vs. Jason. A Hellboy and the BPRD collectors set can also be used with HorrorClix, although it was technically released as a HeroClix product.

HorrorClix was considered discontinued as of 2010, but its combination of pre-painted monsters, scenario play and gore-filled storytelling gives it a distinctive place among miniatures games.
