About this board game
Ignite is a 2021 dueling deckbuilder for 2–8 players, with games lasting around 160 minutes. Players command three units from a chosen race and battle across a variably built board, combining card play, miniature positioning, and asymmetric abilities.
Each unit has three hit points, tracked by inserting daggers into the miniature as it takes damage. The player who deals the final point keeps that unit as a trophy, and the player with the most trophies at the end wins. Every card offers a meaningful choice: play it for its honor value to buy more cards, or use its battle effect to influence units and cards.
Honor is also central to deck improvement. When one of your units occupies the bazaar, it can sell a card by trashing it permanently and gaining honor equal to its original cost. This powerful way to refine your deck comes with danger, since opponents may be nearby and ready to attack.
The board’s terrain creates opportunities as well as serious risks:
- Village: lets you purchase a card, but successful attacks against you deal extra damage.
- Forest: protects against ranged attacks, while fire attacks spread throughout it.
- Water: enables certain powerful spells, but freeze and lightning attacks spread across it.
- Lava: immediately destroys a unit pushed into it.
Timing matters throughout Ignite. Powerful magic may leave you short of honor, bows require arrows, and melee fighters need mounts to close the distance. With negotiation, alliances, and begging available as legitimate strategies, plus varied races, boards, weapons, items, and spells, each battle can unfold differently.
