About this board game

Kakerlakensuppe is a card game for 2–6 players that takes about 20 minutes, challenging everyone to create a vegetable soup while carefully managing what they say.

The deck contains 128 cards: 112 vegetable cards featuring leeks, peppers, carrots, and mushrooms, plus 16 taboo cards. Four taboo cards belong to each vegetable type and show a cockroach slurping from a spoon.

Players receive a portion of the deck and take turns playing the top card onto a central pile. As each card is played, its vegetable is named—unless the rules require a lie. A player must lie when the played vegetable matches the previously played vegetable, or when it matches the previous player’s claim, even if that claim was itself a lie.

• Taboo cards: Play one and slurp; the next player begins a new pile beside it so the card remains visible.
• Visible taboos: Matching a visible taboo card requires a slurp, unless the previous player who played that type already slurped—in that case, say “Mmmm.”
• Penalties: A mistake, stumble, or hesitation that lasts too long means picking up all cards played so far.

The challenge is to keep track of the played vegetables, the previous claims, and the visible taboo cards while speaking without hesitation. The first player to run out of cards wins.
