About this board game

Keytown is a game for 2 to 5 players that lasts approximately 60 to 75 minutes. Across four rounds, each player guides a team of townsfolk seeking to become the new leaders of the town.

Each round represents a generation in the lives of the townsfolk. During these generations, they can work or study at resource locations, develop new skills in the church, council, or market, or start a family in a cottage. Their progress and seniority are represented by numbered tiles.

The story of Keytown builds on the earlier activities associated with Keydom. In the olden days, the teams specialized in mining, fishing, forestry, brewing, and farming. As time passes, the townsfolk become skilled in all of these activities before aspiring to further experience and standing as churchmen, councillors, and tradesmen.

  • Play with 2 to 5 players.
  • Complete four generations, or rounds.
  • Work or study in resource locations.
  • Gain skills through the church, council, and market.
  • Start families in cottages.

After the fourth generation, one team is destined to emerge as the new leaders of Keytown. The winner is the player whose townsfolk are collectively held in the most esteem at the end of the fourth round.

Keytown includes a full-colour board, printed counters, and wooden cubes. The rules and components are provided in English and German. Released in 2000, it is Richard Breese’s third game in the Key series.
