About this board game

Khan is a territorial conquest board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting around 60 minutes. Set in 1244, it places you in the role of a Mongol general serving the Great Khan from the empire’s capital, Karakorum.

The Mongol Empire stretches from Eastern Europe across Asia to the Pacific Ocean, and each general is given considerable independence while pursuing the empire’s wider objectives. Your task is to drive out the eight rulers of the lands you invade and conquer as many valuable areas as possible.

To expand your influence, place your yurts on the board. When the opportunity arises, lay one of the game’s variously shaped conquer tiles over two or more adjacent areas. The yurts covered by a tile do not all need to belong to you, creating opportunities to turn contested territory into valuable conquests.

  • Place yurts to invade and establish a presence across the board.
  • Use differently shaped conquer tiles to claim adjacent areas.
  • Earn more victory points from larger conquer tiles.
  • Score additional points for having the largest connected conquered territory at the end of the game.

The Mongol armies are renowned for their mobility, appearing wherever they are needed, while fleeing rulers are pursued relentlessly. In Khan, successful generals must balance the immediate value of claiming territory with the longer-term advantage of building a large connected domain.

After the final scoring, the general with the most victory points is proclaimed the next Great Khan. With its combination of area invasion, tile placement, contested spaces, and connected-territory scoring, Khan presents a focused struggle for control across the world’s largest contiguous empire.
