About this board game
Kigi is a competitive landscape-building game for 2–5 players that plays in about 20 minutes. In this contest, wealthy patron commissions inspire the world’s greatest painters to create a lovely mural, but every painter is competing for points.
On your turn, draw a card from the central display. A Commission card stays at your side for scoring at the end of the game. If you draw a tree card, you may add it to any player’s tree, giving you the opportunity to strengthen your own landscape or interfere with someone else’s.
Tree cards score when they create a contiguous limb whose cards share one or more features. Each instance of those shared features in the contiguous group is worth 1 point. Watch the growing trees closely: the best scoring opportunity may belong to another player, but you can still decide where the next branch goes.
- Draw from a central display and choose how to use the card.
- Keep Commission cards for end-game scoring.
- Add tree cards to any player’s tree.
- Score contiguous groups of cards with shared features.
- Prune scoring cards when a turn produces more than 10 points.
When a turn scores more than 10 points, remove the scoring cards and let the owner of the tree collect them as pruned branches. After each turn, reveal a new card in the central display. If three Commissions ever appear there, discard all three and replenish the display with three new cards from the deck.
With its quick play time and direct interaction, Kigi turns every card draw into a choice about scoring, disruption, and future opportunities. Build carefully, interfere boldly, and compete to claim the game’s greatest treasure: points.
