About this expansion
Kingdom Builder: Nomads is an expansion for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Released in 2012, it adds four new game boards, new powers, additional scoring options, and red houses for a fifth player.
During setup, four boards are chosen at random from all available boards. On the new boards, castle spaces are replaced by nomad spaces. A randomly selected nomad tile is placed on each one, and the first player to build adjacent to a nomad space claims its tile.
That nomad tile must be used during the player’s next turn and is then removed, whether it was used or not. These tiles create new tactical opportunities, allowing players to build three settlements on specified terrain, move settlements, build without following the adjacency rule, remove another player’s settlement, or score points.
- Four new boards add fresh powers and greater variety.
- The quarry power lets players place one or two stones on empty spaces, helping block opponents or fill unwanted spaces.
- Other location powers allow settlement placement in flower fields, placement adjacent to at least three of your own settlements, and straight-line movement until an obstacle is reached.
- Three new scoring cards reward straight lines, settlements next to other players’ settlements, and placement on terrain not adjacent to empty terrain of the same type.
Replacement versions of the Workers and Merchants scoring cards are included to account for nomad spaces on the expansion boards. With randomized board selection, temporary nomad abilities, and new ways to shape the landscape, Kingdom Builder: Nomads brings more variety and interaction to each game.
