Kingdom Death: Monster – Lonely Tree Expansion is a dark expansion for 1–6 players with an approximate play time of 180 minutes, released in 2016. It centers on the Lonely Tree, a carnivorous organism that lures prey with visions of their deepest desires.

The tree’s influence begins with hypnosis. Those who come near are drawn in by hallucinations, but the alluring visions eventually become ceaseless dreams. While its victims sleep, the Lonely Tree’s roots consume them.

Every meal causes a grotesque bulge to appear on the tree’s branches. As this growth slowly swells, it takes on certain qualities of whatever has been devoured. These strange formations are the tree’s true prize: its ripening “fruit.”

The fruit consists of conglomerations of phytohormones and human gristle. Eating it can produce beneficial, though decidedly bizarre, side effects. This creates a strange contrast between the tree’s horrifying method of feeding and the potential value hidden within its unnatural harvest.

Approach the fruit carefully, however. While it remains close to the Lonely Tree, the chemical volatility of an unripened morsel doubles as the organism’s primary form of self-defense. What may appear to be a valuable reward can therefore become a dangerous threat if handled carelessly.

With its hypnotic lure, dreamlike predation, grotesque growths, and volatile fruit, the Lonely Tree Expansion offers a memorable encounter with an organism that is both predator and producer. Its bizarre biology gives this addition an unsettling identity within the world of Kingdom Death: Monster.
