About this board game

Land vs Sea is a tile-laying strategy game for 2–4 players, played in around 40 minutes. Players build a shared map from double-sided hex tiles, competing to complete land or sea areas and score the most points.

Choose Land or Sea in a two-player game. Each player holds two tiles, with one side revealed and the other hidden until it is played, creating partial information and unexpected choices. On each turn, place a tile to extend the map, complete an area, or limit your rival’s scoring opportunities.

Completed land areas score for Land, while completed sea areas score for Sea, with each area worth one point per tile. Some tiles provide bonus points to the player who completes the area they occupy, so completing an opponent’s area can sometimes be the best way to score. Special effects can also let you play your second tile or steal another player’s tile, although nobody may steal a player’s last tile.

• Mountain and Coral scoring: score for cumulative chains of connected sections.
• Caravan and Ship scoring: add pieces to Trade Routes and compete for majorities at game end.
• Waypoints: place bonus points on the map to encourage cooperation or claim for yourself.

Players replenish their hands from a choice of two face-up tile stacks, carefully preparing for future turns. The game ends when the last tile is placed. Four-player games use teams, while the challenging three-player mode introduces the Cartographer, who scores by connecting Mountain and Coral sections as everyone competes for bonuses and Trade Routes.
