About this board game
Lyssan is an intense strategy board game for 2–4 players, with a listed play time of 180 minutes. In a fractured empire, each player claims to be the one true ruler and must outmaneuver rival pretenders.
The map is a contested landscape where armies, influence, and deception shape the struggle for control. Knights hold territory and fight masterfully, while nobles also hold territory, support priests, and fight poorly. Castles hold territory, produce new units, and protect knights and nobles.
- Priests manipulate influence and support spies.
- Spies can assassinate priests and other spies.
- Spies can also steal rival court cards, potentially taking powerful improvements or turning another player’s followers against them.
Victory comes from claiming the most trophies, with each trophy available to only one player. One trophy may reward control of the most mines, another the greatest spy presence, and another the most sophisticated court. A new trophy is revealed each turn, pushing players to adapt their plans as the contest develops.
Lyssan combines a conquerable map with distinct unit abilities and cards that enable devastating surprise moves or permanently improve your abilities. Playing a card requires discarding others, and those powerful cards can later be stolen by spies, allowing the balance of power to change suddenly.
Built around strategy, cooperation, and betrayal, Lyssan offers rich interaction with slim, family-friendly rules. Interrupting effects have been removed so turns can move quickly, and the game can support timed play for groups seeking an especially brisk contest.
