About this board game

Magician’s Kitchen is a 25-minute dexterity game for 2–4 players, released in 2010, in which apprentice magicians deliver ingredients to cauldrons before lighting the final fire.

The game takes place on a square board with a cauldron in each corner and a fireplace at the centre. Each player has four magic ingredients, represented by marbles, and a large wooden apprentice pawn with a bowl on top for carrying them.

  • Place the apprentice at the starting location.
  • Put one ingredient in the bowl, or two if another player has already delivered all their ingredients.
  • Use the magic wand to push the apprentice towards a cauldron.
  • After delivering every ingredient, move the fireball to the fireplace to try to win.

The challenge is that the board is not an ordinary playing surface. Magnets and metal balls hidden beneath it are positioned at random locations, creating unexpected stumbling points that can make the apprentice fall or send the marble off course.

If the apprentice falls during a move, the turn ends and that player must try again on their next turn. Once a player has delivered all four ingredients, their goal changes: they must carefully guide the fireball to the central fireplace. Succeed, and they win the game.

With its colourful magic-kitchen theme, tactile wooden pawn, hidden obstacles, and delicate wand control, Magician’s Kitchen turns a simple delivery task into a test of precision. Watch your step, steady the apprentice, and get those potions ready before someone else lights the fire.
