About this expansion

Mansions of Madness: Second Edition – Altered Fates is an investigation for 1–5 players that plays in about 120 minutes and was released in 2018.

Lady Helena, the woman who hired the investigators, is abducted through a polychromatic portal before their eyes. With the portal closing and only moments to act, the investigators must decide who will follow her into the unknown—and whether they can continue working together while separated.

Altered Fates divides the team across two maps that remain in play simultaneously. One map is a proper 1920s mansion, while the other shows the future of that same home: an abandoned, boarded-up building. Each setting presents its own challenges and contributes to the unfolding investigation.

  • The present: Investigators explore the mansion as events begin to unfold.
  • The future: Other investigators face the later state of the same building.
  • A connected mystery: Actions and discoveries in one time period can directly affect the other.

A loose floorboard can hide an item that is found later in the same location, linking discoveries across time. A rescued captive may also be able to return to the mansion in the future, giving the separated investigators another possible connection.

With its simultaneous maps and divided team, Mansions of Madness: Second Edition – Altered Fates focuses on coordination across two versions of one home. Every decision must account for both the investigation taking place now and the consequences waiting in the future.
