About this board game
Micro Architects is a city-building game for 1–4 players that takes about 60 minutes to play. Across three rounds, you plan a city, place buildings, develop services, and respond to events while competing to become the chief architect.
On your turn, choose a building from those available at the start of the round and add it to your city board. Aim to create patterns shown on the goal cards, and carefully position landmarks: each landmark has a unique placement requirement and a specific condition for the buildings surrounding it.
Completing a whole district earns you a boat. Collect two boats to acquire a service, making your city more attractive to its residents. At the end of each round, points come from three main sources:
- Goals: score points by creating the required building patterns.
- Landmarks: fulfill each landmark’s placement and surrounding-building requirements.
- Services: earn points for the specified sets of buildings in your city.
Construction tokens give you flexibility when your plans need adjusting. Use them to demolish and rebuild in a different location, access buildings from an additional pool, or gain more choice when selecting a service.
For a deeper challenge, add the Residents module. Place residents on an additional board, where they can provide extra points, let you reuse construction tokens, and help you gain additional boats. The Event module adds uncertainty through disasters that may disrupt unprepared cities and positive events that can provide a helpful boost.
After the scoring phase of round three, the player with the most points wins. With its modular additions and focus on spatial planning, Micro Architects offers several ways to shape an efficient and high-scoring city.
