About this board game

Monolith: The Strategy Game is a fast-paced, confrontational worker placement game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 30 minutes. Players place and socket dice onto Rune cards to gain resources, trigger combinations, earn victory points, and engage their opponents.

Every game begins with a changing setup. The board receives five Starting Rune cards, six randomly selected Rune cards, and one randomly drawn Fate card, creating a variable game board with strong replayability. The first player gains the powerful Primus Token and determines where the starting Round 1 card is placed, while each other player receives either a Skill card or a gem.

On each turn, players place or socket one die at a time onto a Rune card of their choice. These placements can provide Skill cards, Power cards, gems, or victory points, and may also allow players to attack one another. Careful timing matters, since the board is resolved only after all dice have been placed.

  • Use thoughtful and creative strategies to build powerful combinations.
  • Manage finite resources while avoiding wasted placements.
  • Adapt to changing Fate and Rune cards in every game.
  • Compete for victory points while cautiously engaging other players.

During resolution, cards are handled in sequential order, and each die is removed as its placement effect takes place. This ordering makes combinations especially important and rewards players who plan ahead.

Monolith ends after five rounds or immediately when any player reaches Victory on the Score Track. Its mix of dice placement, resource management, direct interaction, and variable setup gives each session a distinct strategic challenge.
