Moonlight Castle

About this board game

Moonlight Castle is a 30-minute game for 2–4 players in which you rescue gems from a wizard trying to pilfer them from a castle. Released in 2021, it challenges players to collect more gems than their rivals.

The gems are hidden on tiles that are shuffled, stacked, and placed inside a cardboard castle. Using a plastic slider beneath the castle’s bottom edge, players push tiles out to form a row of gems that the wizard is levitating away.

Each player begins with four colored pebbles and a figure on the path of tiles. On your turn, move your figure to a new space by paying one pebble matching that space’s color, then draw pebbles from the bag according to the space you entered.

• Move: Pay a pebble matching the color of your destination space.
• Draw: Take pebbles from the bag based on that space.
• Claim: Pay the exact number and colors of pebbles shown on the revealed gem tile.

When you pay the required combination exactly, you claim the tile—tricking the wizard into stealing pebbles instead of gems. Then reveal the tile’s underside to discover whether nothing happens, new tiles are revealed, or you take another turn.

Players continue until the magic path tile is revealed from the castle. After that round ends, everyone counts their gems. In Moonlight Castle, the player with the most gems wins.
