About this board game
Moonlight: The Land of the Wolves is a two-player confrontation game that plays in about 30 minutes, with rival wolf packs battling for control of the mountain.
The last lone wolf, guardian of the mountain, has disappeared, leaving a promising territory contested by opposing packs. Each player takes the role of an Alpha, seeking to secure the survival of their wolves through tactical choices and carefully timed plays.
The game is played as a best-of-three match: the first player to win two rounds takes the game. During each round, players alternate playing one of the three Wolf cards in their hand, building a playing area no larger than 4 by 3 or 3 by 4 cards.
- Place a Wolf card in an empty space orthogonally adjacent to a card already in play.
- Cover an opponent’s Wolf card with a consecutive higher value.
- Use each wolf’s Value, Moon, Counting Power, and Majority Power when competing for lines.
At the end of a round, players compare the Values of their packs across each line. Points are awarded according to the number of wolves involved, with an additional bonus for the majority of Moons. Every placement can influence the developing formation, making the limited play area central to the struggle for control.
Between rounds, the balance shifts again. The round winner receives an extra Wolf, while the loser gains a Power card that can provide considerable strategic advantages for the rest of the game. This creates a changing contest in which victory depends on both immediate positioning and preparation for the next round.
With its compact card layout, direct competition, and escalating best-of-three structure, Moonlight: The Land of the Wolves offers a focused duel for two players.
