About this board game
Morocco is a board game for 2–5 players, released in 2016, with plays lasting about 45 minutes. Players take the roles of artisan families competing for the best stalls in Marrakech’s world-famous Jemaa el-Fnaa market square.
The market is filled with ancient families of snake charmers, water sellers, rug merchants, magicians, and food sellers. Each family works to attract customers, whether through enticing wares or amazing spectacles, while fighting to secure the space it needs during an especially busy day.
Morocco unfolds across two distinct phases. First, players use a nearby roof to scout the market and determine where the busiest stalls will be. This information shapes the choices that follow, as families prepare to send their workers into the crowded market.
In the second phase, players assign workers to stalls. When enough workers from the same family reach a stall, that family claims it and clears out any adjacent juice sellers. The changing positions of workers and the pressure for valuable market space make each phase an important part of the day’s contest.
- Scout the market from the nearby roof.
- Send workers to compete for stalls.
- Claim stalls when enough members of one family arrive.
- Clear adjacent juice sellers when a stall is claimed.
With its Marrakech setting and focus on scouting, worker placement, and stall control, Morocco presents a compact contest among rival artisan families. Plan where to send your workers, watch the developing market, and compete for the stalls that matter most.
