About this board game

Mr. Cabbagehead’s Garden is a card-drafting garden game for 1–2 players that plays in around 20 minutes. Each year, Vernon Cabbagehead hopes to grow an award-winning vegetable garden in peace, but his tedious neighbours have other ideas.

Players draft vegetable cards and place them in a garden plot arranged as a grid of six cards by three cards. Every choice matters: the vegetable selected, its position in the garden, and the supply of invaluable bees that give Mr. Cabbagehead greater flexibility while planting.

As cards are selected, one of the neighbours may interfere with the garden in a variety of ways. Players must adapt their plans while trying to create a garden that is both attractive and plentiful. Once all the cards have been drawn, the Garden Club committee arrives to judge the results.

  • Draft and plant vegetables in a 6-by-3 garden grid.
  • Manage your bees for additional flexibility during planting.
  • Plan around neighbours whose interference can disrupt your garden.
  • Score according to the number and position of your vegetables.

The final evaluation rewards creativity as well as careful planning. A successful garden must please the eye while producing enough vegetables to compete for the coveted blue ribbon.

Originally released as a 2016 print-and-play game with four neighbours, the 2018 published deluxe edition of Mr. Cabbagehead’s Garden adds more neighbours, greater scoring variety, and streamlined rules. It also includes a fixed garden plot grid variant and rules specifically for two players.
