About this expansion

Museum: The Archaeologists is an expansion for 2–4 players with a 60-minute play time, adding expeditions and agent placement to the task of bringing precious artefacts back to your Museums.

This expansion introduces an extra step before exhibition: your Curators must send archaeologists into the world to recover objects. Choose which Continents to explore carefully, because funding expeditions costs Prestige points and an expedition cannot operate without an agent present.

The expansion board features spaces for each Continent, where players place agent meeples to represent their expeditions. Each player begins with one agent and may place it on any Continent for free. Once an agent is in place, you can bring objects back from that Continent during the Exploration phase as normal.

  • Use rival staff: If you have no agent on a Continent but another player does, pay that player 1 Prestige point to use their staff.
  • Develop expeditions: Pay to send additional archaeologists to a Continent, with each extra agent costing more than the previous one.
  • Gain bonuses: Additional agents can provide rewards such as extra Prestige points when you draw a card.
  • Race to build a network: The first player to develop a full network of 3 agents gains a considerable bonus, while the second player receives a smaller bonus.

With limited funding, contested access, and increasing expedition costs, every placement matters. Museum: The Archaeologists gives players new ways to plan their exploration, cooperate with opponents when necessary, and compete for valuable network bonuses.
