About this expansion

Neuroshima Hex! 3.0: Merchants Guild is a board game for 1–4 players with a playing time of 30 minutes, released in 2023. Its central mechanic is the management of gambles, a resource earned by discarding tokens and spent to activate unit traits.

Merchants Guild soldiers usually have low initiative, but initiative directly shapes the cost of their special abilities. To activate a trait, spend a number of gambles equal to the initiative of the unit using it. If the cost is not paid, that trait is simply not active.

This system gives the units different levels of flexibility. The Headhunter has a regular ranged attack, while its special sniper shot requires one gamble to activate. Another soldier with initiative 2 would require two gambles to trigger its trait.

  • Earn gambles by discarding tokens.
  • Spend gambles to activate unit traits.
  • Use initiative to determine each ability’s cost.
  • Manage up to seven gambles at a time.

The maximum of seven gambles leaves room to plan when to unlock a perk and when to conserve resources. Because abilities are not free, each available gamble can influence which traits are active and which remain unavailable.

In Neuroshima Hex! 3.0: Merchants Guild, discarding tokens and managing a limited resource are closely connected to the performance of the units on the board. The result is a system focused on timing, costs, and choosing when a special ability is worth activating.
