One Small Step

About this board game

One Small Step is a 2–4 player engine-building, worker-placement, and racing eurogame with an approximate play time of 120 minutes. Each team leads either the United States or Soviet Union Space Agency in a race to the Moon.

Players work in teams of one or two, with each player controlling either the Engineer Workers or the Administrator Workers for their side. Coordinate with your teammate each turn to gather resources, draft development cards, improve media coverage, recruit astronauts, upgrade resources, and develop your spaceflight capability.

Worker type matters: placing an Engineer or Administrator changes the effect of the board action. Since each action can be used only once per round, every placement blocks not only opposing players but also your teammate from using that action’s alternative effect.

• Gather the game’s nine different resources and upgrade them.
• Draft development cards and build them to score Victory Points.
• Recruit astronauts and advance your spaceflight capability.
• Use media coverage to gain turn order advantages, one-time abilities, and bonus resources.
• Launch unmanned and manned Missions into space.

Successful launches upgrade one of the board actions for every team, changing the strategic possibilities as the game progresses. The first team to launch enough manned Missions to achieve the first manned Moon landing gains bonus Victory Points and ends the game.

With careful coordination, resource management, and timing, One Small Step challenges teams to contribute the most to one of humanity’s greatest achievements. The team with the most Victory Points at the end wins.
