About this board game
Pacific Rim: Extinction is a scenario-driven tabletop miniatures strategy game for 2–6 players, with battles lasting around 90 minutes. It brings the spectacular conflict between humanity’s Jaegers and the monstrous Kaiju to the tabletop through city-wide destruction, tactical combat, and shifting objectives.
Players choose to fight as the PPDC Jaegers or the Kaiju. Jaeger players must protect humanity by defending cities and destroying the invaders, while the Kaiju player secretly pursues an objective revealed at the start of the game. Victory may come from destroying the opposing force—or, for the Kaiju, completing their objective before they are all defeated.
Games can be played as quick, intense matches or as more constructed battles in which both sides use their skills and abilities to achieve a specific goal. Every Scenario and Objective Card can significantly change how the battle unfolds, encouraging players to adapt their plans as the conflict develops.
- Action Cards: Launch attacks, employ tricks, strengthen defences, and unleash secret weapons.
- Customisation: Improve Jaegers with Upgrades through the Jaeger Conn-Pod, or make Kaiju more unpredictable with Mutations that alter their Signatures.
- Damage effects: When a unit takes damage, the attacker randomly draws an opponent’s Action Card and reads its Damage section. The card is then discarded, potentially removing a weapon or ability for the rest of the game.
- Detailed miniatures: Painted 75mm-scale Jaeger and Kaiju miniatures put the enormous combatants at the centre of the action.
As damage accumulates, critical machinery or biology can be affected, and a Jaeger or Kaiju is destroyed once it reaches its Structure Points limit. With hidden intentions, custom abilities, and crippling damage consequences, Pacific Rim: Extinction challenges both sides to outwit, outmatch, and overcome their opponent.
