Pericles: The Peloponnesian Wars is a historical sandbox game for 1–4 players, with a listed play time of 360 minutes, covering the conflict from 460 BC to 400 BC.

Players represent one of two Athenian factions or one of two Spartan factions. The game is divided into a Political Phase and a War Phase, creating a shifting contest between cooperation and rivalry.

During the War Phase, the two city states face one another as opposing sides. In the Political Phase, however, alliances become more personal: Athenian factions compete against each other, as do the two Spartan kings. This contrast gives the game its distinctive “us versus them” and “me versus you” structure.

The city state that gains the most Honor wins the war. Among the factions belonging to that winning side, the one with the most Honor wins the game.

• More than twenty scenarios cover different portions of the war.
• A mini Theater scenario can be played in around 30 minutes.
• Other scenarios cover six years or a decade of conflict, with approximate play times of 45 and 90 minutes.
• Three long scenarios cover the 1st Peloponnesian War, the 2nd Peloponnesian War, and the Campaign game.
