About this board game
Perudo is a hidden-dice game for 2–10 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Each player receives five dice and a cup, rolls them, and keeps the results concealed.
Players take turns making successively higher declarations about the results of all the dice still in the game. A declaration might claim that there are ten sixes among the hidden dice. The challenge is to decide whether to make an even higher claim or contest the current bid.
When a player challenges, everyone reveals their dice. The bid is checked against the dice remaining in play, and either the bidder or the caller loses dice, depending on who was correct. As dice are lost, the number of dice in the game changes, making each declaration increasingly important.
- Each player begins with five dice and a cup.
- Dice results remain hidden until a bid is contested.
- Players declare quantities of particular results across all remaining dice.
- The last player with dice wins.
Perudo is also known as Liar’s Dice, Bluff, or Dudo. It is a South American dice game, and its public-domain form has inspired several variants and similar games.
One related version is played with Poker Dice and differs from marketed versions by focusing declarations only on each player’s own hand. In that variation, players use poker-hand values rather than making claims about all dice in play. Listed with a release year of 1800, Perudo remains centered on concealed results, escalating declarations, and the moment when someone decides to call.
