About this board game
Piratenbillard is a 2–4 player dexterity game played in about 15 minutes, using wooden mallets to send colored balls across a table-like wooden lattice.
The playing surface consists of a wooden lattice with a piece of linen stretched across the bottom. This creates a series of holes, into which the little colored balls are placed before play begins.
Players use the long wooden mallets to strike the bottom of the table. A correctly hit ball pops out of the space where it is resting and lands in another space closer to the opposite side of the board. The result depends on the accuracy and force of each strike, making every move a hands-on test of dexterity.
- Designed for 2–4 players
- Approximately 15 minutes of play time
- Wooden lattice board with a linen bottom
- Colored balls and long wooden mallets
- Captures and off-board eliminations
Landing on another player’s ball lets you capture it, while a ball that lands off the board is out of the game. Players therefore need to control each strike carefully: a successful hit can move a ball forward, capture an opponent’s ball, or risk sending a ball away entirely.
Released in 1989, Piratenbillard offers a compact physical challenge built around timing, touch, and direct interaction with the playing surface. Its unusual board and striking mechanism make each turn an active attempt to guide a ball through the lattice toward the opposite side.
