About this board game

Poetry for Neanderthals is a competitive word-guessing game for 2–12 players that takes about 15 minutes to play. Players compete to score the most points by interpreting words and phrases from carefully limited clues.

In each round, the chosen Poet receives a Poetry Card and tries to get their teammates to say the listed word. The challenge is that every clue must use single-syllable words, all within a 90-second time limit. Explaining a word means finding a simple way to describe it without slipping into more complex speech.

Use a big word, such as “vegetable” when describing “broccoli,” and you get bopped on the head with the inflatable NO! Stick and lose points. That makes every clue a test of quick thinking, clear communication, and careful word choice.
