About this board game
Pursuit of Glory is a two-player World War One strategy game, released in 2008, with an approximately 360-minute playing time. As the British/Russian alliance or the Ottoman Empire, you direct a campaign spanning the Near East.
The action reaches from India to the Balkans, and from the Black Sea to Suez. Commanders must weigh opportunities across several critical theaters:
- The Turkish-Russian frontier in Caucasia
- Neutral Persia and the possibility of a Persian uprising
- Oil-rich Mesopotamia and the Suez Canal
- The Balkans and its vital railroads
- Gallipoli and other naval invasion opportunities
Each player uses a hand of seven cards, deciding whether to play each one for its historic event, command points, or resources. That choice shapes when to invade Serbia, launch a naval operation, reinforce a front, or pursue a wider strategic objective.
As the British, you must hold on while Russian forces seek breakthroughs in Caucasia and British power gradually builds through invasion and imperial strength. As the Turks, you can seek an early complete victory by joining forces with Germany and crippling the British Empire in Egypt and India—or persevere through the wider conflict.
Gallipoli, holy war, mutiny, and the Russian Revolution form part of a campaign featuring figures such as Churchill, Lawrence of Arabia, Enver, and Falkenhayn. In Pursuit of Glory, the struggle includes oil, railroads, warm-water ports, imperial defenses, and the possibility of an alliance with Afghanistan.
