About this board game
Red Outpost is a 2019 board game for 1–4 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes. Set on a remote planet in a distant galaxy, it follows a top-secret Soviet space mission whose settlers have built a small communist heaven far from home.
As one of the colony’s leaders, you guide the settlement through its daily challenges. Rather than controlling a single character throughout the game, you control all of the settlers, taking charge of a different one each time.
Your choices shape the colony’s progress. You must carefully manage available resources and select jobs for the settlers, while considering how those decisions affect the people under your direction. The strange new world may be distant, but the colony’s needs are immediate and familiar.
- Players: 1–4
- Playing time: approximately 60 minutes
- Setting: a Soviet space colony on a remote planet
- Key concerns: resource management, job selection, and settler morale
Morale is of utmost importance in Red Outpost. If the settlers become upset, your leadership may falter, so every job assignment and resource decision requires care. The aim is to become the most prolific leader while keeping the colony functioning and its settlers content.
With its unusual premise and focus on directing a whole community one settler at a time, Red Outpost offers a distinctive management challenge. Lead the colony wisely and help sustain its small communist heaven on an unfamiliar planet.
