About this board game
Reigns: The Council is an asymmetric party game for 3–6 players that takes about 40 minutes to play. One player becomes the monarch, while the other players serve as advisors competing to shape the fate of the realm.
During each reign, advisors bring petitions before the monarch. The monarch must decide which requests to support and which to decline, turning every choice into a test of judgment. Each decision changes the state of the realm, creating a shifting balance of power and pressure.
The realm is governed by four pillars of society. If any one of them becomes too powerful or too weak, the reign ends. The monarch suffers a gruesome death, while advisors whose secret goals were fulfilled celebrate with a victory jig.
- 3–6 players
- Approximately 40 minutes of play
- One player rules as monarch while the others act as competing advisors
- Petitions, secret goals, and changing realm conditions
- A reign ends when one of four societal pillars becomes too strong or too weak
After a reign concludes, a new heir is crowned and the struggle begins again. The changing monarch and competing advisor objectives give the game its asymmetric character, as players pursue different paths toward victory while responding to the same decisions.
Based on the cute and fun app game Reigns, Reigns: The Council brings its theme of difficult choices and political influence to the table. It is a party game about balancing the realm, reading your advisors, and deciding how much power to place in their hands.
