About this board game

RoboDerby: Express is a two-player print-and-play robot racing game designed to be played in under 45 minutes. You are a bored supercomputer directing an underling worker robot around a factory floor, competing to reach the finish line first.

Before the race, you program your robot with movement instructions, then rely on planning and clever positioning to navigate the course. Speed matters, but it is not the only path to victory: factory hazards and opposing robots can disrupt your route, forcing you to adapt as the race unfolds.

  • Program movement instructions for your robot.
  • Navigate hazards on the factory floor.
  • Block, push, and zap your opponent.
  • Manage damage that makes your robot harder to pilot.

As robots take damage, controlling them becomes more difficult, adding pressure to every decision. You must protect your own progress while looking for opportunities to foil your opponent’s plans and claim victory at all costs.

RoboDerby: Express was created as a slimmed-down print-and-play version of RoboRally, using a small set of sticker dice. It was designed by Clinton Herron, also known as HanClinto, for the One Full-sheet Label PnP Contest, and was released in 2011.

The game is built specifically for two players and combines programmed movement, direct interference, hazards, and damage management in a compact factory-floor contest. It was later re-implemented as Pirate Dice: Voyage on the Rolling Seas.
