About this expansion

Seasons of Rice: Jasmine & Ginger is a two-player card addition for games lasting about 15 minutes, released in 2019. Featuring two cards, it alters early-game strategies across the Wet and Dry Seasons.

Jasmine rice is one of Cambodia’s most prominent rice exports and is produced during the Wet Season. Ginger rice is also economically important; although it is grown throughout the year, it is a primary crop during the Dry Season.

At the end of the Wet Season, the player with the most points receives the Jasmine Rice Contract. The other player receives the Ginger Rice Contract. Even though one player has fewer points, that player still drafts the first card from the Dry Season.

  • Jasmine Rice Contract: Immediately score 9 points, reduced by 1 point for every farmer in your landscape.
  • Ginger Rice Contract: During the Dry Season, score 2 additional points for every paddy closed.

This creates a sharp contrast between the two rewards. The Jasmine contract offers an immediate score based on the number of farmers in a landscape, while the Ginger contract rewards progress during the Dry Season through closed paddies.

With its focus on seasonal timing, point totals, drafting priority, farmers, and paddy closures, Seasons of Rice: Jasmine & Ginger gives both players new considerations from the opening stages of play. Choose how to approach the Wet Season, then prepare to make the most of the contract you receive.
