About this board game

Seeland is a board game for 2–4 players, played in about 60 minutes, set during the Netherlands’ prosperous 17th-century golden era. Players take the role of respected burghers helping expand the province of Seeland by reclaiming land from the sea.

The board combines three connected areas: a scoring track around the edge, a rondel for gathering seed and windmill tiles, and a land area where tiles are placed and revealed. At setup, randomly selected island tiles are placed on designated spaces, and each player begins with one of four windmill pawns near the center of the land area.

On your turn, the rondel determines which tiles are available in its inner market. Choose a seed tile—cabbage, rapeseed, or tulips—and place it on an empty space next to one of your windmill pawns. Alternatively, choose a windmill tile and place it next to a space that already contains a tile.

  • Surround windmills: Score the victory points shown on adjacent tiles when a windmill is surrounded, provided at least two seed types are present.
  • Reward diversity: A surrounding area containing all three seed types gains an additional 5 points.
  • Reveal islands: Placing a windmill next to an island flips it to reveal a seed or a farm; revealing a farm grants a coin for an immediate second turn.

When either the windmill-tile supply or seed-tile supply runs out, the game enters its end phase, with the exact timing depending on movement within the rondel. If using the rules for end-game bonus points, players score them before the player with the most points wins. With its tile placement, rondel movement, hidden island reveals, and crop diversity scoring, Seeland presents a focused challenge of land reclamation and prosperity.
