Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Scholar Hero Character is a 2013 board game experience for 2–5 players with a 45-minute play time, centered on John Rhodes, a mysterious alchemist who wields the Philosopher’s Stone.

John appeared one day in the Everglades, living quietly aboard his houseboat and speaking to the local alligators in hushed tones. Although people found him strange, he was simply a kindly old coot who preferred his own company and was always willing to share wisdom and a bite to eat.

John’s true gift is an affinity for the hidden lines that connect everything to everything else. The Philosopher’s Stone allows him to do more than perceive these ley-lines: he can twist them, alter the threads of existence, and transmute objects into other materials.

When the ley-lines pull and twang in ways they should not, the Scholar leaves his quiet life to restore the balance. His journeys may take him against threats that endanger the fabric of reality itself, including:

• Extra-planar entities attempting to enter this dimension
• A crazed scientist trying to pull the moon into the earth
• Nightmarish legions emerging from a comatose little girl

Sometimes John works with other gentle souls, welcoming a little company as he pursues his goal. With its blend of swamp-dwelling mystery, alchemical power, and cosmic danger, Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Scholar Hero Character presents a quietly eccentric protector whose main priority is keeping everything copacetic.
