Shadows of Brimstone: Forbidden Fortress

About this board game

Shadows of Brimstone: Forbidden Fortress is a fully cooperative dungeon crawl for 1–4 players, with adventures lasting about 120 minutes. Set in Feudal Japan, it sends courageous Heroes into a castle overrun by demons, ghosts, and monsters inspired by Japanese myth and legend.

Choose from four distinctive Heroes: the honorable Samurai Warrior, stealthy ninja Assassin, supernatural-creature-hunting Traveling Monk, or elemental-magic-wielding Sorceress. Together, the party battles massive Oni, deadly Tengu, Samurai Dishonored Dead, Acidic Tentacles, and terrifying foes such as the ghostly Harionago and the towering Living Statue.

The game uses the Shadows of Brimstone Game Engine to deliver immersive, story-driven adventures with dynamically generated scenarios. Twelve different Missions, Hero customization, and a built-in campaign system let characters find new items, gain skills and abilities, and continue their progress from one adventure to the next.

• Explore a Feudal Japanese Fortress using beautifully illustrated, double-sided map tiles.
• Visit a Japanese Village between missions to restock, resupply, and undertake a mini-adventure.
• Step through portals into the Belly of the Beast, an alien OtherWorld inside a massive living creature.
• Use 27 multi-piece, 32mm-scale miniatures, over 250 cards, dice, counters, and Hero and Enemy record sheets.

Forbidden Fortress works as a standalone game and is fully compatible with other Shadows of Brimstone products. Heroes can begin in Feudal Japan or the Old West, and parties can combine Heroes from both worlds for even more variety.

With its campaign progression, multiple Missions, memorable enemies, and included original music soundtrack, Shadows of Brimstone: Forbidden Fortress offers a richly themed cooperative adventure for new players and veterans alike.
