About this board game

Shake That City is a family puzzly tile-laying game for 1–4 players, with games lasting around 40 minutes. Design the best city block by revealing patterns, placing building tiles, and creating combinations that score points.

Each round, the active player shakes the Cube Shaker and presses its slider to reveal a 3×3 pattern. They choose one color, then place the matching building tiles in that pattern on their board. Every other player chooses a different color and places tiles using the same revealed pattern, keeping everyone involved throughout the round.

Your city includes roads, factories, shops, parks, and homes. Each building type rewards a different approach:

  • Roads want to connect to an edge of the board.
  • Factories want to be next to other factories and roads.
  • Homes score through clusters that are as small as possible, provided they are not next to a factory.
  • Parks want to be next to homes and factories.
  • Shops score more the closer they are to the city center. Away from an edge, they also need to be adjacent to a road connected to the board’s edge.

The Cube Shaker gives each round a fresh 3×3 puzzle to interpret, while your choice of color determines which buildings you add. Plan placements carefully to create useful connections and avoid locations that prevent your buildings from scoring.

At the end of the game, players earn points for their tile-placement combinations and for completed bonus point tiles around the edge of their boards. With its shared pattern and individual city plans, Shake That City offers a compact challenge for groups or a solo game.
