About this board game
Sherwood is a board game for 2–4 players that plays in about 60 minutes. Each player leads a group of forest robbers, competing across a series of rounds to attack travelers and collect rewards.
In every round, players simultaneously choose a hidden number of robbers to send against three travelers. Because the counts remain concealed until the attacks are resolved, each player must decide how to use their group when targeting the available travelers.
The group attacking a traveler determines that traveler’s properties. Successful groups receive a reward, making each attack an opportunity to advance your position and develop your holdings. The game’s central activity revolves around selecting targets and committing an unseen number of robbers to each encounter.
- Simultaneous attacks against three travelers each round
- Hidden counts of robbers used for each attack
- Rewards claimed by successful groups
- Villages that can provide victory points
Victory points come from the range of villages you own. Some rewards allow a player to gain a village, creating a direct connection between successful attacks, expanding your holdings, and scoring points from those villages.
With its combination of hidden decisions, simultaneous attacks, traveler properties, and village-based scoring, Sherwood presents a focused contest built around timing and reward collection. Released in 2005, it supports 2–4 players and offers a roughly one-hour game centered on forest robbers, travelers, villages, and victory points.
