Sidibaba

About this board game

Sidibaba is a real-time maze adventure for 3–7 players that takes about 45 minutes to play. Players become Sidibaba and his friends, searching a cave for hidden treasure while trying to escape before their oil lamps go out.

One player serves as the moderator and the Leader of the thieves. This player has a map of the maze and guides the others by providing visions with tiles. These visions show what lies ahead, such as a corridor with branching tunnels, without giving the exploring group direct control of the map.

The other players must discuss which route to take and decide which special powers to use as they move along the track. Time is always pressing: if they cannot agree, they must vote, while their lamps continue to burn down.

• Explore a maze using tile-based visions.
• Negotiate routes and special-power choices in real time.
• Search for the treasure and find a way out before the lamps go dark.
• Play as the explorers or guide the thieves toward victory.

Sidibaba’s two sides have different objectives and ways of operating. Sidibaba and his friends win by taking the treasure and leaving the cave in time; the Leader of the thieves wins if they fail to escape or are caught when they have no spare oil lamp left.

Originally designed as Theseus, Sidibaba challenges players to outwit the Minotaur in its maze while managing discussion, decisions, and dwindling light.
