About this board game
Situation 4 is a puzzle-and-game combination for 2–4 players, playable in about 30 minutes. Each player or team works with a complete puzzle in their own color while sharing the same playing area with their opponents.
The central objective is straightforward: cover more area than your opponent and score more points. Because the puzzles are identical apart from color, the contest focuses on how each player or team uses the shared space and the abilities provided by additional pieces.
These extra pieces add distinctive possibilities to the puzzle. They can help players deal with obstacles, protect pieces, or place pieces in areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach.
- Bridges allow pieces to cross rivers.
- Tanks protect pieces.
- Paratroopers allow pieces to land in an opponent’s area.
This combination of area coverage, scoring, and special abilities gives Situation 4 a clear competitive focus while retaining the character of a puzzle. Players or teams are not simply completing a separate design; they are building their colored puzzle on the same area and trying to outperform an opponent.
Released in 1968, Situation 4 offers a compact way to experience a shared-board puzzle contest for two to four players. For another game in the same line, also see Situation 7.
