Spicy is a bluffing card game for 2–6 players that plays in about 20 minutes. In this hot contest, players play cards face down and announce what they are playing, creating constant opportunities to tell the truth—or cheat.

The clever twist is that you can often play a card that is at least half right if you use your hand tactically. Should you play a “Pepper 10,” or use a color wild on a “Wasabi 9” and declare it a “Wasabi 10”? Every play asks you to weigh the strength of your claim against the possibility that another player has noticed your hesitation.

When the table starts watching closely, passing may be safer than forcing a questionable announcement. Spicy turns these decisions into a tense, often tearful bluffing game inspired by three big cats who grew tired of fighting to be top cat and chose a hot spice-eating contest instead.

• Face-down play: Announce your card while keeping the card itself hidden.
