About this board game

Star Wars: The Queen’s Gambit is a 2–4 player board game with a play time of 120 minutes, released in 2000. It recreates the four battles at the end of Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace.

The action takes place across three separate boards and uses 155 plastic miniatures. Together, these battlefields represent the plain where the Gungan forces face the droid army, the Naboo assault on the palace, the duel between Darth Maul and two Jedi Knights, and the space battle involving Anakin’s starfighter and the Droid Control Ship.

  • The battle on the plain between the Gungan forces and the droid army
  • Queen Amidala and the Naboo forces’ attempt to capture the Trade Federation viceroys
  • The fight between Darth Maul and the two Jedi Knights
  • The space battle in which Anakin’s starfighter attacks the Droid Control Ship

The palace board has three levels, adding a distinct setting to the attempt to storm the palace. The action is driven by two decks of cards for each side, giving both sides a hand of ten action cards to manage.

Each turn, both sides simultaneously choose four action cards and place them in a chosen order. The actions are then carried out one at a time, with the sides alternating as each card is resolved.

Combat is resolved with special attack and defense dice. With multiple battlefields, ordered card play, and a large collection of miniatures, Star Wars: The Queen’s Gambit presents the events of the film’s climactic confrontation across one connected game.
